It's the 65th Annual Emmy Awards! I enjoyed the show for the most part, especially NPH hosting. It is nice that the Emmys are usually held far away from the other award shows, so I can appreciate it without being sick of award shows already.
There were a lot of surprise winners, such as The Voice dethroning The Amazing Race for Best Reality Competition, Jeff Daniels winning Best Leading Actor in a Drama Series for The Newsroom, Tony Hale winning Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy for Veep, and Bobby Cannavale winning Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Boardwalk Empire.
Best Parts
- I actually like NPH's opening with the past hosts. The best part was Kevin Spacey's speech and Tina Fey and Amy Poehler heckling NPH.
- Merritt Wever's very short speech. She did not do it intentionally, but it really became the best speech ever. Schmidt is dating an Emmy winner!
- Julia Louis-Dreyfus's speech with Tony Hale holding her purse and being her handler, just like in Veep. Anna Chlumsky also got into the action by texting during the speech.
- The bit about NPH suffering from Excessive Hosting Disorder (EHD). We love How I Met Your Mother, so it was fun to see the cast.
- Nathan Fillion in the "Number in the Middle of the Show"
- Oprah doing the introductions of Jimmy Kimmel writers.
- The dance portion choreographed by the nominees for Best Choreography. We are big So You Think You Can Dance fans, so this is a treat.
Worst Parts
- Jon Hamm's beard
- Melissa Leo's outfit
- Boring musical tributes from Elton John and Carrie Underwood.
Best Dressed
- Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang. She knows what works for her, and she looks amazing in this red, clingy dress.
- Christina Hendricks in Christian Siriano. Christina is another actress famous for her assets, and sometimes she can look as if she's about to pop out at any moment. But this dress is perfectly fitted and shows her curves without danger of over-exposure.
- Allison Williams in Ralph Lauren. The color is beautiful and the dress is very simple and elegant. She wears it with great hair and makeup, too.
- Tina Fey in Narciso Rodriguez. Another gorgeous blue dress. Tina looks sexier here than what she would normally wear.
- Kaley Cuoco in Vera Wang, Kaley has had some weird choices for red carpets, but this one is a winner.
- Mindy Kaling in Georges Chakra. I love the color and it hugs her curves nicely.
- Michelle Dockery in Prada. I love the color blocking on this dress, and she looks very modern and fresh.
- Kerry Washington in Marchesa. I think this is the best pastel of the night. It's very fashionable, but she makes it look so elegant.
- Alyson Hannigan in Marchesa. The eggplant color really complements her red hair, and the fit was beautiful without overwhelming her small frame.
- Cobie Smulders in J. Mendel. Another lovely HIMYM leading lady. She wears this dress so well and it's well-fitted.
- I just had to include Nathan Fillion and his date, Mikaela Hoover
Worst Dressed
- Emilia Clarke in Donna Karan Atelier. This dress looks wrinkled and makes her head looks so much bigger than her body.
- Claire Danes in Armani Prive. The bottom of this dress is fine, but the top looks ill-fitted and she doesn't quite have the assets to fill it up.
- Jessica Pare in Oscar de La Renta. The whole look is just messy, and the shoes are awful.
- Lena Dunham in Prada. It's great that she doesn't do anything conventional, but I wish the skirt was a bit smaller and the pattern not as busy.
- Julianne Hough in Jenny Packham. She looks like she's wearing a leotard with some sparkly covering, and the off-the-shoulders top looks horrible.
- Zosia Mamet in Honor. The dress would be lovely without that weird black bustier.
- Amanda Peet in Erdem. Another wrong move in a sheer dress.
- Robin Wright in Ralph Lauren. She looks like she's going to a funeral. Robin, you're not married to Sean Penn anymore - you are allowed to smile once in awhile.
Split Decision
- Linda Cardellini in Donna Karan Atelier. The dress is a touch too busy, but it has great color and she wears it well. I love the hair.
- Anna Faris in Monique Lhuillier. The color is beautiful and the dress is a nice change from the pastels on the red carpet, but her makeup makes her look 10 years older.
- Connie Britton in Naeem Khan. Connie always looks so pretty, but this dress is just on the wrong side of busy, and the velvet material doesn't help.

2013 Emmy Nominations
The 2013 Emmy nominations came out today, and American Horror Story: Asylum scored the most nominations with 17, with Game of Thrones closely behind with 16. 30 Rock scored 13 nominations, Modern Family has 12, and The Big Bang Theory has eight. Netflix's House of Cards became the first online series to score Emmy nods, including stars Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright.
1) I'm most upset about the following snubs: Simon Helberg for The Big Bang Theory and Jake Johnson for New Girl. Both actors have done wonderful work this year, and have made what could have been very cartoonish characters seem vulnerable, funny, and grown-up.
2) It's also a travesty that Phil Keoghan wasn't nominated again for the Amazing Race, even though the series was nominated. I like Anthony Bourdain, but The Taste wasn't very good, and the Emmys must be somehow contractually required to include Betty White every year.
3) Yay for Carrie Prestron being nominated for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her work on The Good Wife. Can't wait to see Michael Emerson and Preston on the red carpet - they are so cute together.
4) Only Jane Lynch and Dot-Marie Jones were nominated for Glee. It is difficult to break through the ranks of the Modern Family crew in the supporting categories, all of them are again nominated except for Eric Stonestreet.
5) Michelle Fairley, Nikolaj Coster Waldau, Charles Dance, and Gwendoline Christie also deserved nominations for Game of Thrones. At least more than just Peter Dinklage is nominated this year. Emilia Clarke and Diana Rigg also scored nods in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama and Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series, respectively, and the show is up for Outstanding Drama Series
6) No Taran Killam from Saturday Night Live? He did a better job than Bill Hader. Hopefully with Hader gone Taran will get his just due next year.
7) It's great that Morena Baccarin and Mandy Patinkin got nods for Homeland, in addition to Claire Danes and Damian Lewis.
8) I don't watch Nashville, but anything that gets Connie Britton a nomination is fantastic.
9) No love for The Office in its final season, except for a writing nod for Greg Daniels.
10) Love the nominations for So You Think You Can Dance and Cat Deeley.
Best reaction to getting an Emmy nomination so far comes from Don Cheadle, who released the following statement about his nomination in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy category for House of Lies: "Given all the hilarious film work I've done, from Traffic to Crash to Flight, it's nice to finally be recognized as the comic genius I am. Thank you, Academy members.”
Edited to add Emilia Clarke's statement about her nomination (in Dothraki!): “Yer chomoe anhaan. Jin ha Khalaan, shekh ma shieraki anni.” This translates to: “You do honor to me. This is for the Khal — my sun and stars.”

Oscars Review and Fashion
The Oscars are now over, and it's like waking up for a long hangover that is the awards season. I thought Seth McFarlane did an OK job. A lot of his jokes were dumb and misogynistic, but some bits did make me out laugh.
I was right in six out of the 10 categories where I made predictions. I was wrong in Best Supporting Actor, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Director.
Best Parts
- The dance numbers with Channing Tatum, Charlize Theron, Daniel Radcliffe, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt were weird and awesome at the same time.
- I like the musical numbers for the most part. Jennifer Hudson knocked it out of the park with her rendition of "And I Am Telling You I Am Not Going," and the Les Miserables cast did a great job with the medley of songs. Russell Crowe was the only sour note from the Les Miserables number - his voice did not fit the songs at all.
- The Sound of Music tribute/joke was made even funnier by Christopher Plummer's grouchy response
- I wish Shirley Bassey and Adele did a duet, but individually they sound great, too.
- All the guys with long hair
- Daniel Day-Lewis's speech - who knew he was such a comedian?

Best Dressed
- Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck - The prom king and queen of the Oscars. I love Jennifer's custom Gucci gown and Neil Lane jewels, and Ben Affleck looked very handsome in his Gucci tuxedo, despite his beard.
- Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness - I love this couple, and how in love they are. I also love how Deborra-Lee eschews a traditional dress for the tuxedo outfit.
- Sandra Bullock - She looks amazing in the cap-sleeve gown with lace panels from Elie Saab.
- Queen Latifah - The Queen looks very regal in her white Badgley Mischka dress.
- Jennifer Aniston - The Valentino red dress was a nice change on the red carpet, and her hair looks great as usual.
- Naomi Watts - At first I couldn't decide whether the dress was great or too sparkly, but Naomi Watts' inner elegance really carries this Armani Prive gown.
- Charlize Theron - Only Charlize Theron can pull off this Dior Haute Couture and with that short haircut she has been spotting for the new Mad Max movie.
- Catherine Zeta-Jones - The golden embroidered dress was straight off Zuhair Murad's 2013 Couture runway, and she looks amazing in it.
- Jennifer Lawrence - Beautiful pale pink Dior Haute Couture gown. I like the long Chopard necklace draped down her back.
- Kerry Washington - The Miu Miu dress looks so easy-breezy on Kerry Washington, and I love the shade.
- Jessica Chastain - I wish the shade was a little more distinctive from her skin, but the fit of the Armani Prive gown is perfect.
- Halle Berry - Halle Berry made the comment that she chose this Versace dress to bring out her inner Bond girl, and it definitely works.

- Helena Bonham Carter - She actually looks more put together than usual, but the Vivienne Westwood is still messy and her hair is unkempt.

- Melissa McCarthy - Oh, Melissa. There are so many things wrong with this dress, especially the color and the draping.
- Olivia Munn - There's too much material to this Marchesa dress, although the color is beautiful.
- Zoe Saldana - She has never been afraid to take risks, but this Alexis Mabille Couture dress is too much.
- Fan Bingbing - Her Marchesa dress has too much volume and the color does not look good on her.

Best Picture Nominees Special Edition Posters
The Academy of Motion Arts and Sciences worked with Gallery1988 (the gallery responsible for the Lost Underground Art Show) to release nine posters, one for each Best Picture nominee, created by an international group of artists.
EW.com has all nine, and they are pretty cool. My favorites are the ones for Beasts of Southern Wild and Life of Pi.
According to EW.com, the posters will be on display from February 14-17 at Gallery1988's Melrose Avenue location in Los Angeles. People can't buy the posters, but fans can get screen prints of the posters through giveaway opportunities that will be announced on the Twitter and Facebook pages for Gallery1988 and the Academy.

I'm Back and Movies on the Plane
Hello! I'm back from vacation and finally have time to catch up on everything. I kept up with some entertainment and celebrity news over the vacation, but definitely missed some things. Our DVR didn't record the SAGs so I missed that show, but we did catch the Grammys this past weekend.
Mr. Y and I watched Argo on the plane, and we both thought it was an excellent movie. I'm excited that it is getting great momentum going into the Oscars. I didn't even mind the cinematic embellishments because the basic true story is so exciting. I thought Ben Affleck did a great job as a director and as the lead.
Another movie that Mr. Y and I watched on the plane was Pitch Perfect. It was a great movie for a plane ride - lightweight and funny. The singing sequences were great, particularly the riff-off and the final performances. I didn't know Anna Kendrick could sing like that, and Skylar Astin really should be a bigger star than he is. I found out later that he was on Spring Awakening with Lea Michele and Jonathan Groff, and that Lea Michele originally wanted him on Glee to play Brody, but his schedule was too busy. Anna Camp was also believable as the controlling leader of the Barden Bellas, the all-female a cappella group. Other supporting players were also very funny, particularly Rebel Wilson as another Bella. The whole movie was just the right amount of sweet and silly, and the chemistry between the actors was believable. We even bought the movie on Blu-ray when we got back so we can enjoy it on a bigger screen, and it came with a funny Line-O-Rama extra.

Oscar Nominations Are Out!
The 2013 Oscar nominations were announced this morning by Emma Stone and Seth McFarlane, and although most of the nominations follow predictable paths, there were some surprises. The most notable omission was Ben Affleck as Best Director for Argo. He has been nominated in every other award so far, so his exclusion is quite a surprise.
Lincoln leads the way with 12 nominations, followed by Life of Pi with eleven (a surprisingly strong showing) and Les Miserables and Silver Lining Playbook with eight. Silver Linings Playbook got nominations in all four acting categories, the first movie to do so since Reds in 1982. Argo scores seven, and Zero Dark Thirty scores five. The Master, which some people thought may be dead in the water, got nominations in three out of the four acting categories.
I'm also excited that "Maggie Simpson in The Longest Daycare" got nominated for Best Short Film.

He's going to be one of those actors like Pacino, who will get an Oscar later for a role where he doesn't deserve one, but more as a lifetime achievement award.

SAG and Golden Globe Nominations
The Screen Actors Guild and the Golden Globes announced their nominations yesterday and today. A lot of the usual suspects, with some surprises.
SAG Nominations
Movies
- No Zero Dark Thirty for Best Cast in the Motion Picture, but the cast of the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel was nominated. Zero Dark Thirty has been one of the buzzed about movies this award season, and no one had talked about the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel at all, so this was definitely a surprise. According to one Awards Daily blogger Sasha Stone, the screeners for Zero Dark Thirty and Django Unchained didn't arrive in time for the SAG nominations, but Jessica Chastain did get nominated for her role in Zero Dark Thirty.
- Javier Bardem got nominated for Skyfall over a slew of other candidates, such as Russell Crowe and Eddie Redmayne for Les Miserables, Leonardo DiCaprio for Django Unchained, Matthew McConaughey for Magic Mike, and Ewan McGregor for The Impossible.
- Joaquin Phoenix was not nominated for his role in The Master, when he was considered a lock a couple of months ago. Maybe Phoenix's comments about how the Oscars are "bulls**t" hurt his chances.
- Nicole Kidman's nomination for the Paperboy was also a surprise. The movie did not get good reviews, and was not widely seen. According to Anthony Breznican at EW.com, "when awards screeners went out only her name was suggested on the package for consideration."
- Beasts of the Southern Wild was not eligible for SAG consideration because it was not a union production, including the lead actress, Quvenzhane Wallis. Her exclusion from the SAG awards probably helped Helen Mirren land a SAG nomination for Hitchcock.
Television
- The television categories did not have as many obvious snubs or surprises as the movie categories. A lot of the usual suspects are there, such as Modern Family, Homeland, and Breaking Bad. In the drama categories, cable series tend to dominate, while networks still dominate the comedy categories.
- Jessica Lange from American Horror Story: Asylum was nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series. Her nomination isn't the surprise - it's the inclusion in the drama series category. American Horror Story's creators and FX have insisted that the show is a miniseries, not a drama series, and last year it was entered in the Emmy race under this category. But the SAG apparently disagreed.
- It is a bit of a surprise that The Office as nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series, especially over buzzed-about series such as Girls and Veep.
- Homeland was ignored last year by the SAGs, but the cast and the two leads, Claire Danes and Damian Lewis, were nominated this year.

Grammy Nominations
Nominations for the 55th Annual Grammy Awards were announced last night with a special Grammy nominations concert hosted by LL Cool J and Taylor Swift. A lot of people got the expected nods, but there were also some surprises.
- Justin Bieber and One Direction were completely shut out, despite having two of the most successful albums.
- Frank Ocean and Fun. both got nominated for album of the year, best new artist, and record of the year.
- Maroon Five only got two nominations and none in the big categories
- Jay-Z, Mumford & Sons, Frank Ocean, Kanye West, the Black Keys's Dan Auerbach and Fun. tied for the most nominations with six each.
- Carly Rae Jepsen or Gotye seemed to have a strong shot at best new artist, but got beaten out by bluesy rockers Alabama Shakes and folk-rock trio the Lumineers.
- Yay for Kelly Clarkson and her nomination for Record of the Year, best Pop Vocal Album, and best Pop Solo Performance, plus the song "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)" is also nominated for Song of the Year.
- There isn't a clear favorite like Adele last year, so the Grammys might be going to more disparate artists this year.
The 55th Annual Grammy Awards will air on Feb. 10 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.

2012 Emmys - Pre-Shows and Ceremony
My random impressions of the 2012 Emmys Pre-Shows and Ceremony:
Pre-Shows on E! and ABC
- I can't help but go "Awwww" at the obvious joy Giuliana Rancic is getting out of being a new mom.
- E!'s new mani-cam is just odd, and most of the celebrities did not what to do with it.
- Jimmy Fallon made the same exact jokes on E! and on ABC's official pre-show about Amanda Bynes driving him to the Emmys, Clint Eastwood saving him a seat, and people thinking it was him, not Jimmy Kimmel, who was the host of the show.
- Ryan's banter with Julianne Hough is so awkward. Are these two really dating?
- Kelly Osbourne's hair matching her dress is weird.
- I always feel bad when the celebs are rushed off the interview area so Ryan can talk to more important celebs waiting.
- ABC's Josh Elliott is very tall. I've only seen him before on ESPN behind the desk, so I had no idea how tall he was.
Ceremony
- Yay for the shout-out to Cat Deeley during Kimmel's opening monologue. Too bad she didn't win, although I do like Tom Bergeron, too. Cat still looks more amazing than Tom. Tom did have a funny acceptance speech, especially the part about thanking Jeff Probst for not being nominated.
- Kimmel's opening monologue was short and funny, but I didn't like most of his bits during the show. I didn't find the prank with Tracy Morgan and the part when his parents were escorted out funny. What was funny was when Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert tried to keep Jon Stewart from reaching the podium, and the Breaking Bad Andy Griffiths spoof.
- Jon Cryer? Really?
- Was Jessica Lange on something or drunk?
- Not enough shots of Benedict Cumberbatch - plus it was terrible that Sherlock didn't win anything.
- Funny bit between Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Amy Poehler switching speeches when Julia won.
- Weirdest presenter combo of the night: James van der Beek and Damon Wayans, Jr.
- Well-deserved standing O for Michael J. Fox

The 2012 Emmys Fashion
The 2012 Emmys were last night, and there was quite a bit of a fashion parade going on. In general, there was a lot of sparkly, sequined dresses, bright colors (yellows, oranges, lime greens), and patterns. It definitely wasn't a boring red carpet. Here are my hits and misses (in no particular order).
BEST DRESSED
Sofia Vergara - Zuhair Murad. She knows what works on her, and has donned the mermaid-style gowns for multiple award shows. The color, the sparkle, and the fit are perfect, plus that large engagement ring and the rest of the diamonds really work on her.
Julie Bowen - Monique Lhuillier. The color is bright, but it actually works on her, and the fit and the drape was great. Plus it looks great with the new Emmy that she won.
Tina Fey - Vivienne Westwood. Tina Fey has really stepped up her red carpet game in the past few appearances. This dress has a deep red color that flatters her, and she smartly leaves off any distracting necklace to let the jeweled neckline shine.
Padma Lakshmi - Monique Lhuillier. Orange is a popular color, and this is one of the best on the red carpet last night. The cut itself is a bit boring, but she looks great in it.
January Jones - Zac Posen. Black is actually the minority for the red carpet last night, and this one stands out because of the dramatic draping and skirt. I don't always like her choices, but this one is a winner.
Emily Van Camp - J. Mendel. I think the color is a bit boring, but the dress is pretty and she looks amazing in it. I also love the hair and soft makeup.
Jessica Pare - Jason Wu. Beautiful white dress and it fits her perfectly. What a red carpet debut for the Mad Men star.
Ginnifer Goodwin - Monique Lhuillier. At first I thought I hate this dress, but the more I look at it, the more I like it. It is a daring dress, but she pulls it off with the haircut and her amazing face.
Amy Poehler - Stella McCartney. The newly-separated star rocks a much more daring look than her previous red carpet dresses, and she looks incredible. Way to show off your assets, Amy.
Jennifer Westfeldt - J. Mendel. Simple dress, but great fit and beautiful navy color. Of course her best accessory is her longtime love, Jon Hamm.
Cat Deeley - Tadashi Shoji. Cat looks elegant and statuesque in her bright orange-red gown, with just the right amount of detailing.
WORST DRESSED
Christina Hendricks - Christian Siriano. The color is pretty, but I thought the draping was weird and that belt was just an odd way to cinch her waist.
Julianne Hough - Georges Hobeika Couture. I hate the whole look - the hair makes her looks 20 years older than she is, and the weird feathering on the bottom doesn't do the dress any favor.
Leslie Mann - Naeem Khan. She looks like an old lady on top and the skirt color just hurts my eye.
Kristin Wiig - Balenciaga. She looks washed out in this cream gown, and the bottom looks like an old-fashioned lace tablecloth.
Julianne Moore - Dior Haute Couture. There is just too much dress, especially in that bright yellow, and it really overwhelms the petite star.
Lena Dunham - Prada. A talented lady, but she looks so much older in this dress. Lena, you are only 26 years old. You don't have to dress like you're in your 40s.
Elisabeth Moss - Dolce & Gabbana. Her new blonde bob looks incredible, but what's with the curtain-turned-into-a-dress look?
Julianna Margulies - Giambattista Valli Haute Couture. Another one that looks like a curtain, complete with a seam right down the front.
Ashley Judd - Carolina Herrera. Ashley looks like a prom queen, which is not a good thing for the Emmys. That hair is also a miss.
Lena Headey - Giorgio Armani. Lena Headey is a beautiful woman, but she looks like a witch in that dress. Plus her makeup and hair just look so odd.
Zosia Mamet - Bihbu Mahopatra. Everything about this look is just wrong, from the dress to the hair and the makeup.
SPLIT DECISION
Zooey Deschanel - Reem Acra. The bottom of the dress is gorgeous and the color looks great on her, but the top is ill-fitting and squishes her chest in such a weird way. It ruins an otherwise beautiful look.
Nicole Kidman - Antonio Berardi. I'm not sure about the blue beading on the top, although she does look elegant as usual.
Kat Dennings - J. Mendel. Another one who is beautiful on the bottom and has a great red color, but the ill-fitting top is awful. I was afraid her boobs were going to pop out at any moment.
Lucy Liu - Versace. Her dress is bordering on futuristic, and not in a good way, but I think somehow she pulls it off.
BEST DRESSED
Sofia Vergara - Zuhair Murad. She knows what works on her, and has donned the mermaid-style gowns for multiple award shows. The color, the sparkle, and the fit are perfect, plus that large engagement ring and the rest of the diamonds really work on her.
Julie Bowen - Monique Lhuillier. The color is bright, but it actually works on her, and the fit and the drape was great. Plus it looks great with the new Emmy that she won.
Tina Fey - Vivienne Westwood. Tina Fey has really stepped up her red carpet game in the past few appearances. This dress has a deep red color that flatters her, and she smartly leaves off any distracting necklace to let the jeweled neckline shine.
Padma Lakshmi - Monique Lhuillier. Orange is a popular color, and this is one of the best on the red carpet last night. The cut itself is a bit boring, but she looks great in it.
January Jones - Zac Posen. Black is actually the minority for the red carpet last night, and this one stands out because of the dramatic draping and skirt. I don't always like her choices, but this one is a winner.
Emily Van Camp - J. Mendel. I think the color is a bit boring, but the dress is pretty and she looks amazing in it. I also love the hair and soft makeup.
Jessica Pare - Jason Wu. Beautiful white dress and it fits her perfectly. What a red carpet debut for the Mad Men star.
Ginnifer Goodwin - Monique Lhuillier. At first I thought I hate this dress, but the more I look at it, the more I like it. It is a daring dress, but she pulls it off with the haircut and her amazing face.
Amy Poehler - Stella McCartney. The newly-separated star rocks a much more daring look than her previous red carpet dresses, and she looks incredible. Way to show off your assets, Amy.
Jennifer Westfeldt - J. Mendel. Simple dress, but great fit and beautiful navy color. Of course her best accessory is her longtime love, Jon Hamm.
Cat Deeley - Tadashi Shoji. Cat looks elegant and statuesque in her bright orange-red gown, with just the right amount of detailing.
WORST DRESSED
Christina Hendricks - Christian Siriano. The color is pretty, but I thought the draping was weird and that belt was just an odd way to cinch her waist.
Julianne Hough - Georges Hobeika Couture. I hate the whole look - the hair makes her looks 20 years older than she is, and the weird feathering on the bottom doesn't do the dress any favor.
Leslie Mann - Naeem Khan. She looks like an old lady on top and the skirt color just hurts my eye.
Kristin Wiig - Balenciaga. She looks washed out in this cream gown, and the bottom looks like an old-fashioned lace tablecloth.
Julianne Moore - Dior Haute Couture. There is just too much dress, especially in that bright yellow, and it really overwhelms the petite star.
Lena Dunham - Prada. A talented lady, but she looks so much older in this dress. Lena, you are only 26 years old. You don't have to dress like you're in your 40s.
Elisabeth Moss - Dolce & Gabbana. Her new blonde bob looks incredible, but what's with the curtain-turned-into-a-dress look?
Julianna Margulies - Giambattista Valli Haute Couture. Another one that looks like a curtain, complete with a seam right down the front.
Ashley Judd - Carolina Herrera. Ashley looks like a prom queen, which is not a good thing for the Emmys. That hair is also a miss.
Lena Headey - Giorgio Armani. Lena Headey is a beautiful woman, but she looks like a witch in that dress. Plus her makeup and hair just look so odd.
Zosia Mamet - Bihbu Mahopatra. Everything about this look is just wrong, from the dress to the hair and the makeup.
SPLIT DECISION
Zooey Deschanel - Reem Acra. The bottom of the dress is gorgeous and the color looks great on her, but the top is ill-fitting and squishes her chest in such a weird way. It ruins an otherwise beautiful look.
Nicole Kidman - Antonio Berardi. I'm not sure about the blue beading on the top, although she does look elegant as usual.
Kat Dennings - J. Mendel. Another one who is beautiful on the bottom and has a great red color, but the ill-fitting top is awful. I was afraid her boobs were going to pop out at any moment.
Lucy Liu - Versace. Her dress is bordering on futuristic, and not in a good way, but I think somehow she pulls it off.

2012 Emmy Nominations
The 2012 Emmy Nominations came out today, and some snap judgments:
1) Yay for Max Greenfield and Mayim Bialik getting nominations for New Girl and the Big Bang Theory!
2) It's great that Peter Dinklage gets recognized, but he was the only actor recognized from Game of Thrones (who did get a Best Drama nod).
3) No love for Glee other than Dot-Marie Jones. I thought Lea Michele did awesome this year.
4) Best Reality Show Host - excited about Cat Deeley and Phil Keoghan, but Betty White? I love Betty White, but is this a rule now that every award show must have Betty White in it?
5) Sherlock got recognized with a nod for Best Miniseries or Movie, as well as Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.
6) No Katey Sagal for Sons of Anarchy, but Kathy Bates got nominated for Harry's Law?
7) Jon Cryer got nominated for Two and a Half Men. This slot should have gone to someone else more deserving, like Johnny Galecki or Joel McHale.

The 66th Annual Tony Awards
I finally got to watch the 66th Annual Tony Awards, which aired last Sunday. Neil Patrick Harris came back to host, and he was his usual charming, funny self. His opening number about how life would be better if it was like theatre was hilarious, with great lyrics and dancing. His other musical numbers were also excellent - the compilation of the past 60+ years of best score, and his closing number about how he doesn't have enough time to sing about closing the show.
This year's show has quite a few funny sight gags and moments:
- The Book of Mormon missionary interrupting James Earl Jones signing Darth Vader pictures in his dressing room.
- An actor playing Mufasa in full outfit and headdress sitting in the audience, and people behind him were grumbling about not being able to see.
- NPH dangling behind Angela Lansbury and Theodore Chapin, Chairman of the American Theatre Wing in a Spiderman gag. Of course they had to cut to Andrew Garfield, who was in the audience as a Tony nominee for Death of a Salesman. It's unbelievable how good-looking Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield are as a couple.
- Hugh Jackman dancing with a cast member from Godspell and singing along.
- Mandy and Patti LuPone singing excerpts before presenting the Best Revival of a Musical.
- A woman body-surfing to get back to her chair while NPH was cutting to commercial.
- Matt Stone and Trey Parker - the "Broadway establishment" - congratulating the "young whippersnappers" who seek to join their ranks while presenting the award for Best Musical.
Audra McDonald won her fifth Tony for Porgy and Bess. Her rendition of Summertime was just out-of-this-world. I was lucky enough to have seen her in Master Class and Ragtime, and she is not only an amazing singer, but also a fantastic actress. I'm glad she is back on Broadway, where she belongs, as opposed to second-rate TV drama.
We spotted three SYTYCD alums in the cast of Newsies - our absolute favorite Alex Wong, whose dancing stood out even in that talented cast, Evan Kasprzak, and Jess LeProtto.
Peter and the Starcatcher looks intriguing. If Mr. Y and I actually have time, we would love to see that show. Someone I know from college is the fight choreographer for the show, Jacob Grigolia-Rosenbaum. Here's a great interview with him and how he did it. The play is based on a novel co-written by famed humorist and satirist Dave Barry.
Once looks like a great show, and all the actors playing the musical instruments certainly add a great touch. I was disappointed that they didn't sing "Falling Slowly," though, since that is one of my absolute favorite songs of all time.
The best moment was when Deborra-Lee Furness surprised her husband, Hugh Jackman, by presenting him with his special Tony. It was clear that these two love each other very much. It was very sweet to see them together. I already adore Hugh Jackman, and his devotion and love for his wife and family make him even hotter.

CFDA Awards
The Council of Fashion Designers of America held its annual awards last night, and a lot of fashion royalty as well as a random assortment of celebrities showed up in amazing and sometimes weird outfits.
My favorites were Julianne Hough, Kyra Sedgwick, and Zoe Saldana.
Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen won the coveted Womenswear Designer of the Year awards for their work on the luxury label The Row. It's amazing to think of Michelle Tanner winning design awards! But they have been designing for awhile and their clothes actually seem to look good, even if they themselves usually look weird. Plus they would look so much better if they smile more. I do give them props for crafting new, sustainable careers instead of burning out like so many child stars.

The Met Gala and The James Beard Awards
New York was the site of two very different red carpets on Monday night - the Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of the Arts and the James Beard Awards at Lincoln Center. It's rather amusing to compare the two red carpets:

The Met Gala is usually referred to as fashion's Oscars, and there are some jaw-dropping dresses on the red carpet (both good and bad). Highlights for me include Beyonce's Givenchy Haute Couture dress, Cary Mulligan's Prada paillette dress, and Nina Dobrev's dramatic Donna Karan.
As for Jessica Biel, I didn't like the dress, but nice arm candy. My favorite couple, though, is Emily Blunt and John Krasinski. They look so adorable together!
But what was up with Kirsten Dunst and Elizabeth Banks? Those dresses are just ugly.
At the James Beard red carpet, the fashions weren't as dramatic, and in comparison to the Met Gala a bit nerdy, but it's nice to see the chefs out of their whites. Yay for Top Chef: Texas winner Paul Qui winning Best Chef Southwest. Plus it's nice to see another Top Chef: Texas favorite Ed Lee again!

Jennifer Lawrence
This photo has been making the rounds on the internet, but I thought it was so cute that I have to share it.
Jennifer Lawrence, the star of the Hunger Games, was nominated for an Academy Award last year for Winter's Bone. The picture below is of her reaction when she found out that she was nominated.
How awesome was her reaction? Plus she looked so normal in her PJ and cardigan. Her parents are even wearing matching robes. The guy behind her is her brother, and the other guy to the left is her boyfriend, Nicholas Hoult. They starred together in X-Men First Class. I do wonder why he's in roller-skates, though...
This picture was supposed to be in the Rolling Stone magazine feature of her, but didn't make it in the final issue. However, the caption that was supposed to accompany this picture has also been making the rounds:
“On the morning the Oscar nominations were announced, someone snapped a photo of her and her family just as her name was being read. 2012 Oscars Picks
Sorry I haven't blogged in awhile. We moved and things have been crazy. We didn't get internet until a couple of days ago. This Sunday is the 2012 Oscars, and there are several interesting races. Here are my Oscars picks for the major categories.

Grammy Awards
Tonight's Grammy Awards had several great performances. The most anticipated was Adele, who was performing for the time since her throat surgery. She sounded great singing Rolling in the Deep, and was definitely Queen of the Grammys with her six wins, including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year.
Nicki Minaj had a great, elaborate set with stained glass, priest, altar boys, choir, and being lifted in the air on cables. It was a fun performance of her new single, "Roman Holiday," and will probably generate some protests. She also showed up on the red carpet with a guy dressed as the Pope. We also spotted Ade and Kathyn from So You Think You Can Dance dancing backup for Nicki Minaj.
Of course Whitney Houston's death hovered over everything. Jennifer Hudson did a beautiful job singing "I Will Always Love You" as a tribute. Everyone was talking about her during the red carpet and LL Cool J started the show with a tribute to her followed by a short video tribute. What a sad ending to a beautiful singer. May she rest in peace.

2012 SAG Awards The Show
The SAG Awards is usually a pretty good indicator of who will in at the Oscars, and this year's SAG Awards just threw a wrench into a lot of Oscars predictions.
The Help won Best Cast, instead of The Artist. This is a big upset, since the Artist was considered the favorite. The Artist will probably still win Best Picture, but this win for the Help just made it more interesting.
Viola Davis and Jean Dujardin won Best Actress and Best Actor, respectively, beating out their chief rivals Meryl Streep and George Clooney, who won the Golden Globes. At this point it's a two-men and two-women race for these categories. The only winners who continue their march to surefire Oscars are Octavia Spencer and Christopher Plummer in the Supporting categories.
The winners in the Television Categories were more predictable. Alec Baldwin won for the sixth time as Best Actor in a Comedy Series, and Steve Buscemi won for the second year in a row as Best Actor in the Drama Series. Betty White also won Best Actress in a Comedy Series for the second year in the row for her role in Hot in Cleveland, and sweetly thanked her other co-stars. Boardwalk Empire and Modern Family won again for Best Cast in a Drama Series and Comedy Series, respectively. The only new winner is Jessica Lange for American Horror Story.
Mary Tyler Moore won the Lifetime Achievement Award, which was presented by Dick Van Dyke. Lovely speech, and lovely woman.
