The Fresh Beat Band - Changing Actor and SYTYCD Connections

My son used to watch The Fresh Beat Band a lot on Nickelodeon Jr., but hasn't been into it in the past few months.  Today Mr. Y saw an ad for the new season of The Fresh Beat Band, and noticed that one of the characters looked different.  It turned out that the original actress who played Marina, Shayna Rose, has been replaced with a new person, Tara Perry.  According to their wikipedia entry, Shayna left to get married and to pursue other projects.

This is not the first time that The Fresh Beat Band has changed actors, but kept the same character.  Between the first and second season, the original actor who played Reed, Hadley Fraser, was replaced by Patrick Levis.

I always wonder why they decided to change the actor and not just changed the character.  It would seem to be easier to explain to the kids that the previous character left and a new character came in, rather than to explain why the same character looked different.  I'm pretty sure if my son is still watching The Fresh Beat Band now, he would notice that Marina looks different.

The Fresh Beat Band also has a lot of connections to So You Think You Can Dance.  Several SYTYCD choreographers have choreographed for The Fresh Beat Band, such as Mandy Moore, Chuck Maldonado, Sean Cheesman, and Nakul Mahajan.  A few SYTYCD alums have also appeared on The Fresh Beat Band: Legacy, Mark Kanemura, Tony Bellissimo, as well as Harry Shum, Jr. from Glee.  I'm sure there are other dancers that I'm missing, especially since we haven't watched it in awhile.  Mr. Y thinks that Tadd Gadduang from this season's SYTYCD would be perfect for The Fresh Beat Band, since he's so smiley and energetic.
