Hurricane Irene has finally passed our area, and thankfully we are OK and did not lose power. Unfortunately there are parts that are flooded and a lot of people without power, and no one knows yet how much of mass transit is affected. We've watched a lot of Hurricane Irene coverage, and all the pictures and videos are frightening. There were fires, downed trees, deaths, floods, and just massive destruction. One particularly memorable video is of a concrete lifeguard house getting moved by the water in Long Island, and a road split in half in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
Everyone is not out of the woods, yet, because there are still possibilities of storm surges and flooding. The most dangerous thing would be the downed power lines, especially in water. In times like this, everyone is glued to updates and news on any medium they can find, from computers to television to battery-operated radios if you have no power.
